DUTCH PRIME MINISTER SET TO PARTNER WITH MOROCCO FOR GREEN HYDROGEN PROJECT

The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is set to visit Morocco on June 21 to explore avenues of cooperation on green hydrogen and reinforce economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Head of the Moroccan government Aziz Akhannouch will receive Rutte in Rabat upon his arrival, indicated the Dutch government in a statement. The pair will discuss various topics, including migration, regional security, and multilateral cooperation.

The Dutch PM will then participate in a prominent gathering of businesses to discuss ways to collaborate on green hydrogen.

In addition, several agreements will be signed, underscoring collaborative efforts in line with Morocco’s energy transition.

During the visit, Rutte will also engage in a dialogue with students at the Netherlands Institute Morocco (NIMAR) in Rabat to discuss Morocco’s role in its region and its collaboration with Europe.

The visit will conclude with a high-level meeting that will see the attendance of representatives from Dutch and Moroccan companies, as well as dignitaries from both countries.

Rutte’s visit to Morocco is part of his trip to Africa during which he is scheduled to visit Namibia and South Africa on June 19 and 20. These visits coincide with the Dutch government’s recent publication of its new Africa strategy, emphasizing the Netherlands’ readiness to boost ties with African countries and form new partnerships.

It also aligns with the letter that the Dutch government recently sent to the parliament regarding the use of energy diplomacy for future hydrogen imports.

Rutte expressed his enthusiasm about his trip to the three African countries, describing Africa as a “large and important continent, with enormous potential.”

“Africa and Europe need each other and have a lot to offer each other,” he stressed, explaining that the two continents can collaborate on climate change transition, particularly green hydrogen, the central theme of his visit.
